PHOENIX DESSERTS pt. 1

PHOENIX DESSERTS pt. 1

Johnny and I went to Phoenix to try out a couple desserts at some local shops. We visited two locations: Dark Hall Coffee and Nami. They have some delicious treats and we were excited to try some of the new items they were carrying and let you guys know what we think.

DARK HALL COFFEE:

FUNFETTI MACARON:

  • I loved the colors they used. It was very pretty and vibrant. It has a nice crisp cookie shell and even had the footing like a traditional macaron. The only critique we had was that it did not taste like funfetti. The flavor was more so like a rainbow lollipop from an amusement park or candy store. Johnny also felt the filling was too sweet. We gave this a 3 out of 5.

BLUEBERRY COFFEE CAKE:

  • I really liked this! The cake was nice and fluffy. The streusel layer wasn’t too sweet for me where it compromises the overall flavor. I also liked that the blueberry layer added a nice sour component to balance out the sweetness. Johnny on the other hand felt that the this coffee cake was a little too sweet for his taste. He said if there was a little more of the fruit, it might have balanced the overall taste better. We gave this a 4 out of 5.

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE:

  • Johnny did not like the cookie at all. He said it was hard and also had way too much salt, but I personally thought it wasn’t bad. It has a nice chew to it, but it is a firmer cookie. The salt compliments the rich chocolate and helps to bring out its sweetness, but there was a bit too much on the top. We gave this cookie a 2.5 out of 5.

NAMI:

CONCHA:

  • This is one of my favorite items that Nami makes, and it’s usually amazing. It’s only made occasionally so when it’s available, I make sure to get it. Unfortunately, this time around was very disappointing. The crumble layer on the top was great. It had a sweet cinnamon sugar taste to it. The traditional markings were on there like a real concha as well. The texture of the bread was nice and fluffy, but the dough was not proofed correctly. It had a strong alcohol taste and smell to it which was very unpleasant. We gave this a 1.5 out of 5.

NAMI CUPCAKE:

  • This is our favorite staple item from Nami and has been consistently delicious every time we order it. Johnny and I both used to eat the Hostess Ding Dongs a lot when we were kids so we’re happy to have found this vegan gem. My only complaint is that some cupcakes have more filling than others. We gave this a 4.5 out of 5.

Overall, we had fun trying the desserts from these two locations and can’t wait to try more! I know both locations tend to switch up their flavors for their desserts so there’s always something new to look forward to! If you guys check them out, let us know what you think. Hope you guys have fun long weekend!

Stay sweet,
– April
